Challenge
OWOW was approached to partner with the CIRCL team in their mission to tackle two of Europe's most pressing issues: the housing crisis and the sustainability crisis. CIRCL's ambitious vision brought with it equally ambitious deadlines. Their team approached OWOW with the task of bringing their vision to life through a digital MVP. To achieve this, the CIRCL team not only required a best-in-class digital solution for processing customised orders, but they also needed it quickly, in just ten weeks from concept to launch.ne to captivate this demographic.

Strategy
Our OWOW workshops are foundational to everything we do. In this first meeting, we worked together to establish what success looks like. The aim is to take our time to understand the problem before we start ideating solutions. During the discovery workshop, we mapped out the user journeys, identified key pain points, and set clear objectives for the MVP.
Design
Designing a digital architect is both a technical and psychological challenge. The key question is: How can we build trust in a system where a computer designs and engineers a home?
To address this, we conducted interviews and developed user personas to deeply understand our audience. We mapped out user flows, identified the emotional hurdles they face, and analyzed common frustrations in the building process. These include:
- Lack of transparency in pricing,
- Limited ability to modify choices and see real-time price impacts,
- Poor follow-up during the building process, and
- Inflexibility to adjust plans while understanding cost implications.
By tackling these pain points, we designed a process that feels clear, responsive, and trustworthy for our users.

Engineering
The CIRCL platform was developed with a focus on scalability, user experience, and future-proofing.
The team selected Next.js, NestJS, and PostgreSQL, with TypeScript as the backbone, because it ensures consistency across the frontend and backend while simplifying collaboration and debugging. TypeScript also made it easier to onboard developers, supporting the client’s long-term goal of building an in-house team.
The "area configurator," a 2D editor for reshaping plots within building regulations, was engineered for precision and usability.

3D renders
The decision to use PixiJS for rendering and Three.js for visualizing these edits in 3D allowed for smooth, interactive experiences. The integration of Belgian government APIs ensured plot data remained accurate and compliant with official standards, reducing potential errors during validation.
Outcome
The impact of this project extends beyond the immediate results. It represents a significant step forward in addressing Europe's housing and sustainability crises. We are excited to see how this solution will evolve and make a lasting difference in the market. CIRCL's collaboration with OWOW continues. We are now working on the 3D visualization of the house i.e. offering users the possibility to configure their house in 3D. The absolute cutting edge of construction tech.
